2003 Truchard – Syrah - Napa Ca. (Carneros)

I had the pleasure of tasting this at Flemings (see review) as it was on their 100 list.  Any wine list that is by the glass I am somewhat skeptical of.  Many companies will not open good bottles in order to avoid them going bad.  Two things, Flemings promotes good wine and they handle their wine well so no problems there.

This wine did not disappoint.  It was so good that I went out and bought a bottle the next week and shared with some friends.    My tasting notes from the original taste at Flemings include the fact that this wine is strong (not hot) but has very focused strength not overpowering but just enough in just the right place.  I also had a faint taste of anise and some nice spice.  Overall this wine was not bold and in your face but had a solid strength to it that held all the way through the glass.

I would have no problems recommending Truchard Syrah.  Their 05 is out right now and I have not tasted it yet but if I get some I will let you know how it sits.  There is a bottle of Chardonnay in the vault that will come out this weekend.  That is how much blind faith I have that these guys are making some great wines.

Remember that life is too short for bad wine or bad friends.
