June 24th 2009 Franciscan – 07 vintage Chardonnay ( Those of you who drink with me know that white wines are not really my wine of choice. There are several blends and some really rich chardonnay’s that I do like but it is an irregular event to be drinking a white. The bottle says that this small lot, more natural wine will offer “rich, exotic fruit flavors with vanilla and oak nuances”. Again, not being a trained oenophile I can only try to guess what they mean. I do smell a bit of vanilla but this wine, as do many white wines leaves a lasting taste on my tongue that is not bitter but not sweet. The wine itself tastes good and on a hot summer day it is a good wine to have. I like the small lot concept and will endeavor to find some more Franciscan and try it to see if any of the other wines hold up. Not a stellar wine for my tastes but not a bad one either. Plus the joy of watching neighbors and friends stare and whisper about me drinking a nice glass of white wine is worth the effort. Remember that life is too short for bad wine or bad friends.
