Pearl – Napa – Dinner

This was an interesting dinner to start with.  While touring the Trefethen winery we met up with a couple that was tasting wine for their restaurant.  Here is a sub recommendation for Eddie V’s in Dallas / Fort Worth.  The GM is a gregarious and enjoys his food and wine.  His wife Nadine is engaging and is in the biz too with doing back office work for restaurants.  (Sorry Nadine, did not get the company name but if you tell me I will update the site).

We decided to go to Pearl based on the recommendation of the family at Trefethen.  We ended up out on the Patio by choice and although it is a bit noisy based on the fact that it is on the bus route, it was private even while on the street.   The service started out a bit surly but ended up being seamless and consistent for high value service.  We had the oyster special that night and it was phenomenal.  Great oysters!

I ended up going with the main course of Duck.  Often duck is cooked in a manner that leaves it greasy and a bit fatty.  This was cooked with a brittle skin that helped bake that greasy feel out without making it dry.  Being an amateur cook I can tell you that this is skill at its finest.  One more minute and dry duck, one less and it is greasy.  Great duck!!!  Got to try it.  There were also vegetables on the plate that had basil and ginger that really gave them some kick.

The others at the table raved about their dinners as well and I would guess that everyone in the restraint did as well.

Finally we finished off with some gelato while Nadine and Rich had a house desert that was (based on diner opinion) a very good rendition.

Overall, a great dinner and a great experience based on both the company and the restaurant.  If you want a great alternative to an ultra expensive dinner and get great quality, this is the place for you.  Try It.

Remember that life is too short for bad wine or bad friends.
